Optional courses
Optional courses
At the beginning of the academic year, students have to choose at least one course from the list of Advanced subjects optional courses (4 ECTS) and at least one course from the list of Skills optional courses (3 ECTS).
Students are allowed to choose more than one course from each list. For the calculation of the optional course result, only the best mark from each list will be used. If a student decides to take, for example, two Advanced optional courses and she/he passes only one, the mark of the course she/he passed will be taken for the calculation of her/his Advanced optional course result. The student does not have to resit the course she/he failed. This counts as well for the Skills optional courses.
To be able to organise the optional courses efficiently, the Joint Studies Board has adopted the ‘commitment rule‘.
Commitment rule
- By choosing at the beginning of the academic year one course from each list, students commit themselves to actually attend the classes AND to participate in the examination of the course they have selected from each list.
- If, at the beginning of the year, students decide to choose more than one course from each list, they commit themselves to actually attend the classes AND to participate in the examination(s) of the extra course(s) they have selected.
- If, later in the academic year, students want to attend an additional course which they did not select at the beginning of the academic year, they can still do so without having the obligation to take part in the examination of the additional course(s).
