Aims of the course:

This course aims to help the students to improve their Chinese with a better understanding of the vocabulary, more complex grammatical structures, the differences between the oral and written Chinese, and the rhetoric structures and rules, etc.

Learning outcomes and competences: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to explain and work with:

• help the students to know how to pronounce correctly, to know the basic grammar, basic words, basic Chinese characters, and how to use them in the right way. The course can help the students to study survival Chinese and make the basic daily communications.
• improve the students’ ability of expressing Chinese in compounded sentences and paragraphs, systematically studying the Chinese grammar, enhancing the students’ skills of independent learning Chinese, helping the students to express their ideas in correct and completed way.

• Chinese competence of listening, speaking, reading and writing

• Active lecture/seminar/workshop/tutorial participation 20%
• Mid-term test 40%
